Engine & Transmission Warranty

Our warranty covers the head and block only (internals). All electronic parts are sold as is, with no warranty coverage.

  • Replacement engines and transmissions: 60 days, head and block only, starting on the day of purchase.
  • Performance swaps (engines or transmissions with VTEC, turbo or supercharged systems): 30 days, head and block only, starting on the day of purchase.
  • Rotary engines and transmissions: sold as is, no warranty coverage.
  • All engines and transmissions must be installed within the warranty period.
  • Out-of-state purchasers: we compensate for shipping time and start the warranty on the day you receive the unit.

What Is Not Covered

JDM of San Diego is not responsible for installation or improper use of any engine or transmission. The following parts and circumstances are not covered:

  • Professional installation is required. We do not provide technical support for installations. If a certified mechanic does not install the engine or transmission, the warranty is void.
  • All external parts, including axles, power steering, oil, water and A/C pumps, intake and exhaust manifolds, carburetors, distributors, coil packs, ignitors, valve covers, oil pans, alternators, starters, emission control devices, thermostats, belts, hoses, clutches, flywheels, pulleys, wiring, computers (ECU), turbo and supercharger units, fuel systems, injectors, gaskets, seals, sensors, solenoids and plastic trim.
  • Failure to perform an oil system overhaul (flush the oil system and replace the oil pump). Loss of an engine from insufficient oil or lack of oil pressure voids the warranty.
  • Failure to perform a timing overhaul (timing belt or chain and tensioner). Damage from improper installation voids the warranty.
  • Labor for installation or removal of any defective part.
  • Swapping or removing cylinder heads, crank, rods, pistons, cams or gears, or removing the transmission casing.
  • Loss caused by modification or forced induction (nitrous, alcohol injection, turbo, supercharger or aftermarket ECU upgrades) for which the engine was not designed.
  • Failure to perform a cooling system overhaul. Loss caused by overheating, unless the overheating is the direct result of an internal part failing.
  • Tune-ups and adjustments to belts, hoses, filters, emission control devices, spark plugs and similar items.
  • Normal wear and tear without an actual breakdown.
  • Use of E85 fuel, over-boosting a turbo, or tampering with stock boost pressure.
  • Fitment. Before purchasing, you must verify that the engine or transmission fits your vehicle. We are not responsible if an incorrect unit is purchased.

All performance engines are sold for off-road use.

General Information

We supply used imported Japanese engines with low mileage. External parts such as belts, hoses, seals, gaskets and plastic covers are sometimes damaged in shipping and can be replaced by your mechanic using parts from your vehicle. Cosmetic marks such as scratches on a valve cover are normal on used engines and do not affect performance. Replaceable parts such as sensors, exhaust pipes and air intake boxes may be missing if they were broken or damaged. The warranty only covers the internal parts that would prevent the engine or transmission from operating correctly.

Smog & Emissions

JDM of San Diego is not responsible for the failure of an emissions or smog test. Please verify with your local authorities whether the engine meets the smog and emissions regulations in your state.

Defective Engine Claim Procedure

If a head, block or transmission is defective, email the following to info@jdmofsandiego.com or fax it to 619-271-5996:

  1. A detailed written description (work order) with photos of the defective part, from a certified mechanic only.
  2. A copy of the mechanic's certification and contact information. We will contact the mechanic to confirm the documents. The mechanic may not be the person who bought the unit.
  3. If the unit is faulty, one of our staff must examine it while it is still in the vehicle at the shop that installed it, otherwise the warranty is void.

Once we receive the paperwork, we will decide whether to refund the damaged part(s) only or request the engine or transmission back for a replacement. Shipping charges and labor are not covered. Defective units must be returned complete with no parts missing; any missing parts will be removed from the replacement before it ships. We are not responsible for the cost of return shipping.

Accessories Warranty

  • All sales on used accessories and parts are final. They are sold as is and no returns or exchanges are accepted.
  • Body parts, interior parts, wheels and suspension are sold as is and carry no warranty.

JDM of San Diego reserves the right to change or modify this warranty at any time.
